NIMS Credentialing

NIMS Credentialing Process at Symbol Job Training, Inc.

1.   Register Online

After you register, your sponsor at Symbol Job Training, Inc. will need to approve your registration.
Once this is completed, you will receive two emails:  one will be a receipt and the other will contain your username and password, which are needed to sign into the NIMS Online Testing Center.

2.   Complete a Performance Exam & send notification to NIMS

Performance Affidavits
Before an individual can take an online exam, he or she must complete a performance exam which includes hands-on tasks.  To find guidelines and part prints for the performance exam, simply log in on the NIMS website and go to the Resources Page, where you'll find Performance Guides and individual prints. Symbol Job Training, Inc. will work with you to accomplish this step.

Credentialing Achievement Records (CARs)
To earn a Level 2 or Level 3 credential, the candidate will complete a Credentialing Achievement Record (CAR) which is basically a checklist of skills.  Simply have the candidate complete the CAR while under supervision of a sponsor at Symbol Job Training, Inc. and then send the completed Affidavit of Completion to NIMS (included in the CAR booklet).  All CARs are available on the Resources Page (see above).

All Performance Affidavits and Affidavits of Completion (CARs only) must be sent to NIMS before the candidate is eligible to take the online theory exam. Symbol Job Training, Inc. will go through this process for students.

3.  Take The Exam

Remember, the NIMS credential is the metalworking industry’s only skills certificate that is based on national standards developed under procedures accredited by the American National Standards Institute. The NIMS credential is used by the industry to recruit, hire, place and promote. Firms use the credential to identify skilled candidates at all levels of employment. The NIMS credential is used by education and training institutions as performance benchmarks, often as part of graduation or degree requirements, and often as the basis for advanced credit.
